Hey it's Susan.
Anyone else feeling like your getting up every day and it's the same as it was yesterday?
Groundhog Day is a movie about a news reporter Phil Connors (Bill Murray) who gets trapped in a time warp. He lives the same day again and again while retaining the memory of the each iteration that he has lived before. After going through periods of shock, bitterness, depression, he realizes that if he can’t change the world, he can perhaps change himself. When Phil starts caring about other people, he’s not only able to profoundly transform his life, he gets to move forward again.
These days, life can feel pretty much like GroundHog Day for me.
I get up and life is still on hold.
I can't get a pedicure or manicure. Can't see my friends or go out to eat. I can't pop into my favorite local shops or boutique's to see what's new. And . . . if I watch 1 more Andy Griffith Show because my husband is off work I'm going to start dressing like Aunt Bea and wear my hair in a bun!!! Lawd have mercy.
I think you get the idea.
But just like Phil . . . I can only change my mindset and the way I'm looking at the situation.
The Pandemic is a circumstance and will pass soon. I need to remember it's how I think about it. How I handle the circumstance with my thinking and mindset. So this is what I'm doing with my mind instead.
What I *am* able to do is get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Go for a walk with my husband, or a neighbor, and get my body moving. Get my hands dirty while planting new life into my landscape beds and build fires in our fire-pit in the backyard. I can read more and feed my mind with positive information.
To help me break up the day even more here are some things I've been doing that have been helpful for me.
What I'm reading:
Becoming - by Michelle Obama
How a young black girl navigates her way out of the South Side of Chicago in the 70's and into the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. Michelle describes her struggles to balance work, family with Barack's fast moving political career. Beautifully written.
What I'm listening to:
Leon Bridges - Good Thing
I found this artist on the Sunday Morning show a few months ago I have been listening to him ever since. He's a soulful singer-song writer from Texas. Worth a listen for sure.
