We're living in challenging times that is for sure.
Every time you turn on the T.V. or jump on social media it's filled with dreadful news. It can be so overwhelming, leaving us to wonder what kind of world our children and grandchildren will be left with. Local and worldwide. Scary times.
And yet...when I look around my life is still pretty amazing. Life here on Earth is an awesome experience with all the seasons changing, the love of family and friends, and the wonder of my children's existence. How often do I look at them and realize the miracle that spun them into existence? You, me, the sky and Earth - at one time came into a beginning. How miraculous is that?
Here are 4 ways I use to combat the bad news and bring myself back to center, and a sense of wonder.
Sit in your thoughts.
I'm often found sitting in candlelight or night lights and reflecting on my day. Taking inventory about what went right or what went wrong. What needs my attention and how I can tweak a few things. Reminding myself to try and focus on just one thing at a time. When I do this I am more apt to notice the wind rustling the tree branches outside my sunroom or the vibrant orange color of leaves in my backyard. I slow down a lot these days and admire the beauty in front of me.
Planting myself in nature brings all things full circle. Nature confirms life keeps on keeping on whether we realize it or not. I watch the geese on the lake behind my house bring their little ones into this world and teach them how to survive gathering food, the spiders that spin beautiful webs while trying to catch their prey.
Give Back to the Community and Connect
Pouring your strengths and talents into the community where someone else benefits are very good for the soul. Interacting with organizations where women question their being, made to feel small, useless in their life. Listening with a genuine intention to another human can be a game changer for someone feeling invisible.
Embrace the Good as well as the Bad
I am not saying we should stick our head in the sand when it comes to bad news...we couldn't have the positive without the negative, light without the dark. But, the world feels like a hard place for so many, and when my mind focuses too much of my energy on the negatives, it blocks out the greatest parts of my life.
None of us are going to make it out of here alive. How about while we are here we focus on what is in front of us right here, right now. The wonder here and now.
I don't know about you but I can use some wonder right about now.
